Our Support

Social

The communities are very supportive and embracing. Our Practices help our Registrars settle into the area, introducing them to community, sporting and church groups in keeping with their interests.

We hold a welcome social gathering at the beginning of the year, with regular get-togethers so Registrars and GPs can meet and interact with each other in a social setting with their families.

The people in our Program are very supportive, reflecting the hospitality of this region. The Medical Educators and Registrar Liaison Officer are interested in your integration into your new community. They are available to support you and speak with you about any help you may need and to ensure your term and conditions are being met.

Accommodation

Our Practices arrange subsidised accommodation for their Registrars for their exclusive use throughout the term. The Registrar will usually be responsible for payment of gas, electricity and private phone use.

Accommodation is of an excellent standard to enable Registrars adequate room for appropriate study and recreation. It will be separately locked and entered and exited at any time of the day or night at the discretion of the Registrar. Accommodation consists of at least the following:

  • A reasonably furnished house/unit with adequate heating and cooling facilities
  • A separate bedroom with a double bed and adequate linen
  • Reasonable provision for study including desk, chair and study light
  • Reasonable provision for the appropriate storage, preparation and consumption of food by the Registrar
  • Reasonable clean internal bathroom and toilet facilities
  • Reasonable provision for storage, washing, drying and ironing of the Registrar's clothing
  • Provision of a telephone in the residence that enables the Registrar to ring out and to receive phone calls both within and out of hours
  • Provision of television and radio
  • Provision for nearby storage of the Registrar's car with adequate lighting and security

The Practice will respect the privacy of the Registrar's accommodation and provided that there are no exceptional circumstances will have entry only with the Registrar's permission.

The Registrar is expected to leave the premises clean and tidy when vacating at the end of the term.
