Training Opportunities
We offer a full range of educational opportunities to Registrars - tutorials, corridor case discussions, video consultation analysis as well as GP CME, which is often organised regionally in the Mount Gambier area. Our two Supervisors are very experienced: one has held the SA regional medical educator position for several years and other has an MA in education from the UK. We offer opportunities to train in obstetrics and, if you have interest in anaesthetics, we can pursue opportunities in the area to further your interest. Our Doctors have access to private patients in the Mt. Gambier Hospital.
Registrar Support
Flinders University places medical students in our Practice and provides educational activities for students, Registrars and GPs in the area. We have an ongoing continuing education focus in the Practice and have in-house clinical meetings with presentations and discussion.
We provide a 3-bedroom furnished house as accommodation for our Registrars.
In our Clinic Rooms
Our clinic, opened in 1974, is modern and purpose built. With recent renovations we now have 16 consulting rooms (11 of which have adjacent separate examination rooms) and one dental suite. To give the large Practice the feel of a more intimate Practice, groups of consulting rooms have their own patient waiting area and receptionist. Our treatment area includes separate treatment cubicles and ECG, vitalograph, gynaecological and plaster rooms. Our clinic has its own audiometry annexe (to ASA standards) and a separate consulting room for our Practice Mental Health Workers.
We have a full complement of nursing, reception, clerical and administrative staff including a Practice Manager. Our clinic operates a 45-user Windows computer network. We use Best Practice clinical software for our fully computerised patient records and each workstation has fast broadband internet access. Clinic fees are set independent of the Commonwealth schedule and AMA fee levels. Pensioners are bulk-billed and financially disadvantaged patients are offered discounted fees.
Our nursing staff provide antenatal consulting, pap smears and assist with the management of patients with chronic diseases through management plan preparation and review.
