This practice has vacancies for GPT 1, 2 and 3 registrars, and PGPPP interns.
Practice Philosophy
To provide the highest standard of patient care incorporating a holistic approach toward diagnosis and management of illness. This Practice is committed to promoting wellness and disease prevention to all patients. We do not discriminate in provision of excellent care and aim to treat all patients with due respect.
In our Clinic Rooms
We have a treatment room where minor surgery is performed and a separate ECG room. We have an ECG machine, spirometer, sigmoidoscope, nebuliser, cautery equipment, liquid nitrogen, etc, and we try to pursue a policy of doing as much as possible in our own premises. Our Nurses assist the Doctors with triaging patients, minor procedures, immunisation and wound care. The two Nurses share a 4 day roster.
All permanent records are in RACGP files. Medical Director software is used for writing prescriptions. We run an instant billing system using Mediflex software.
The local GPs manage some 90% of all obstetric patients at Camperdown Hospital and this includes operative deliveries including LSCS. Most surgery performed by the GPs is at the D&C, and drainage of abscess type level.
Training Opportunities
Educational sessions include case discussions, sitting in on consultations, video recording of consultations, hospital ward rounds and hands-on instruction in minor surgery, plus other relevant hospital experience such as anaesthetics.
All three Trainers provide teaching and Registrars find the different styles and the flexibility suits them. Trainers are also available for corridor discussions.
Registrar Support
We involve our Registrars in social activities through the Practice, such as invitations to dinner and to functions.
We provide accommodation in a 4-bedroom Victoriana house next to the Hospital, rent free.
Patients
We service Camperdown which has a population of 4,500 and the wider area of Cobden and Lismore with a population of approx 2000. Our patients' needs vary from geriatrics, infants, children, obstetrics, etc. We also service the Hospital by providing a maternity service as well as anaesthetics for surgical, urological and orthopaedic lists.
Hospital
The Camperdown Hospital caters for acute medical and surgical care as well as obstetric patients, and includes a 24-bed Geriatric Nursing Home unit and an 8-bed Hostel. Those patients who cannot be managed in this facility are transferred to Warrnambool, Geelong or Melbourne. We also have a Psychiatric Services Clinic in Camperdown.
Specialists
Specialists from Warrnambool and Geelong visit our Clinic and/or Hospital on a regular basis. These include a General Physician, General Surgeon, Orthopaedic Surgeon and an Obstetrician/Gynaecologist. They are all extremely co-operative and helpful.
Hours of Operation
Monday - Friday:
9:00am to 5:00pm (but we more usually work through until 6:00pm or sometimes later)
Saturday:
10 am to 12.00 noon (but we sometimes work until 1.00 pm)
(shared with Robinson St Clinic so that generally we only open on alternate Saturdays)
Each day we visit the local Hospital (staffed entirely by VMOs from the town) to do our patient round.
On call duty roster
Our Registrar can expect to be rostered 1 night a week, 1 Friday night in 7, 1 weekend in 7. When rostered for a Friday night no other nights are rostered that week. Registrars work 9 sessions a week and have a half day off per week.
