Schools & Educational Facilities

Read an introduction to schools and other educational facilities in the Greater Green Triangle region put together by Brian Trotter (Manager of Educational Programs).

Schools

Within the region there are a variety of schools to choose from:

  • 26 Private Primary Schools
  • 76 Government Primary Schools
  • 8 Private Secondary Schools
  • 20 Government Secondary Schools

Universities

There are two university campuses located in the region: the Warrnambool campus of Deakin University and an RMIT campus located at Hamilton. In addition, the University of South Australia offers some courses through TAFE at Mount Gambier.

In 2001, a collaboration between Flinders University and Deakin University saw the creation of the new Greater Green Triangle University Department of Rural Health, which covers the GGT region. Deakin University will open a new Regional and Rural Medical School in 2008.

TAFE Colleges

The region also contains four technical and further education colleges (TAFEs), which provide post secondary education at a certificate and diploma level.

These education institutions enrol not only students from Australia, but also an increasing number of overseas students from all over the world. Students coming here to study are attracted by the excellent services provided, well qualified teaching staff, flexible course provision and the advanced teaching facilities.
