Lifestyle

The lifestyle in our region is relaxed - think beaches, bush walks, country races, camping, wine tasting and sporting activities. There is an abundance of clubs, activities and networks in the region, suitable for singles and young families. Although a rural setting, it is not remote; we are close enough to Melbourne and Geelong for frequent visits.

The region boasts the spectacular Dunkeld Racetrack (with Mount Abrupt as its backdrop), Coonawarra wineries and the historic town of Port Fairy where the famous Folk Festival is held annually.

Housing costs are more affordable than in the city, so you can find a much larger property for a comparative price. The rural or coastal lifestyle is ideal for children and with a high standard of educational facilities, the region provides a wise lifestyle choice for families.

The region is also attractive to singles, with world class surfing, a wide range of sporting activities and clubs, beautiful beaches and countryside, many musical festivals and social activities.

The communities are very supportive and embracing. Our Practices help our Registrars settle into the area, introducing them to community, sporting and religious groups in keeping with their interests. Practices are clustered, enabling partners and friends undertaking training to stay close. We support partners training together and do all we can to assist partners who are not Doctors to settle into the area.

We hold a welcome social gathering at the beginning of the year, with regular get-togethers so Registrars and GPs can meet and interact with each other in a social setting with their families. The people in our Program are very supportive, reflecting the hospitality of this region.
